چکیده

A light pseudoscalar coupled to two photons would be copiously emitted by the core of a supernova. Part of this flux would be converted to γ−rays by the galactic magnetic field. Measurements on the SN1987A γ−ray flux by the Gamma-Ray Spectrometer on the Solar Maximum Mission satellite already imply a bound on the coupling g < 3×10 GeV. The improved generation of satellite-borne detectors, like EGRET or the project GLAST, could be able to detect a pseudoscalar-tophoton signal from a nearby supernova, for allowed values of g. Cangaroo-iii Search for Gamma Rays from Sn 1987a and the Surrounding Field

Optical images of SN 1987A show a triple ring structure. The inner (dust) ring has recently increased in brightness and in the number of hot spots suggesting that the supernova shock wave has collided with the dense pre-existing circumstellar medium, a scenario supported by radio and X-ray observations. Such a shocked environment is widely expected to result in the acceleration of charged parti...

A White Dwarf Merger Paradigm for Supernovae and Gamma-Ray Bursts

Gamma-ray bursts can appear to be a hundred times as luminous as supernovae, but their underlying energy source(s) have remained a mystery. However, there has been evidence for some time now of an association of gamma-ray bursts with supernovae of Type Ib and Ic, a fact which has been exploited by a number of models, to explain the gamma-ray burst phenomenon. Here we interpret the results of ba...

The SN 1987A Link to Others and Gamma-Ray Bursts

Early measurements of SN 1987A can be interpreted in light of the beam/jet (BJ), with a collimation factor >10, which had to hit polar ejecta (PE) to produce the “Mystery Spot” (MS), some 24 light-days distant. Other details of SN 1987A strongly suggest that it resulted from a merger of two stellar cores of a common envelope (CE) binary, i.e. a “double degenerate” (DD)-initiated SN. Without hav...

Supernova 2008d: a Repetition of Supernova 1987a in a Binary

The Supernova 2008D is similar to that of SN 1987Awithout the H-envelope. Soderberg et al. (2008) reported the serendipitous discovery of the SN2008D at the time of the explosion, accompanied by an X-ray outburst XRF080109. The central remnant, which we believe to be the black-hole (BH) central engine in the Blandford-Znajek mechanism, is estimated, on the basis of the 7% Ni production, to have...

There is mounting evidence that long duration gamma ray bursts (GRBs) and X-ray flashes (XRFs) are produced by highly relativistic and narrowly collimated jets ejected in core collapse supernova (SN) explosions akin to SN 1998bw. We review the history of the GRB-SN association idea and its observational verification. We summarize the present evidence for a GRB/XRF-SN association. We comment on ...
